3D Printing for Industry Today: Fact or Fiction?

3D Printing for Industry Today: Fact or Fiction?
3D printing or additive manufacturing is often associated with producing plastic objects up to a foot in size, or metal objects up to a few centimetres in size. People are understandably wildly enthusiastic about those new opportunities, but when will the time come that 3D printing is a viable technology for producing industrial pumps, engines and construction parts weighing dozens or hundreds of kilograms? When will 3D printers be fast enough for such applications? When can printed products be supplied with a material certificate such as Lloyd's 3.2, so that they can be used in industries such as offshore? Will that time ever come?
Many people are looking for the answer in the wrong direction, and as a result do not realise what is already possible today. Your company may be missing out on golden opportunities!
